Three days after winning the biggest tournament of his life, Powerline Services pro Keith Combs still was busier than he could imagine.
“I’ve been on the phone non-stop calling people who texted me or called and thanking them,” he said. “It’s been wonderful, really, the support and calls from so many people.”
You might think Combs would be ready to unplug and have a quiet moment to celebrate. Sunday evening, with the sun setting in the Texas sky and time ticking away, he caught a 15-inch bass on a big crankbait that won the Toyota Texas Bass Classic world championship.

CONROE, Texas – After a week of slugging it out like Hagler and Hearns in their epic late-1980s battle, Powerline Services pro Keith Combs and Toyota pro Mike Iaconelli only needed one 14-inch fish to finish the deal following a monster week at the Toyota Texas Bass Classic.
Iaconelli, the veteran from New Jersey with a Bassmaster Classic and B.A.S.S. Angler of the Year title, and Combs, the up-and-coming Texan with his rookie Elite Series season just under his belt, battled in the 1-2 positions for three days on Lake Conroe. Combs led each day, with Iaconelli sitting in the catbird seat to overtake...

CONROE, Texas – Two big flurries of activity and one record-setting bite helped the top three anglers take command of the leaderboard Friday at the Toyota Texas Bass Classic.
Powerline Services pro Keith Combs of Texas had a record-setting day on Lake Conroe to take the lead with a stunning five-bass limit weighing 28 pounds, 8 ounces. That catch was anchored by a 10-8 largemouth he caught about three hours into the day that claimed ATX Wheels Big Bass award.
Both were individual TTBC records for Lake Conroe. This is the third season for the tournament on Conroe; the first two tournaments...

In the last edition of "The Final Analysis" (click here to read), I told you that Kevin VanDam has the longest consecutive limit streak in Bassmaster Elite Series history at 57 straight competition days.
Of course, that's just part of the story and just one more line in the record book for the greatest professional bass angler of all time.
The rest of the story about the consecutive limit streaks belongs to the other anglers who have laid down some impressive numbers in the six years of the Elite Series.
In all, consecutive limit streaks of 30 competition...

Elite Series Pro Keith Combs will be sporting a new truck wrap next week at the Harris Chain. Tournament Saver Pro will be taking up the big spot on his truck. If you ever had a dead battery ruin your day (like at weigh-in time with a huge sack) these guys have the answer.
It’s a on-board jumper system that will get you back in the game without ever leaving the driver seat. No need for jumper cables or a jump box anymore.
“I have used the Tournament Saver product for three years on the FLW tour, and can think of at least three tournaments where my cranking battery went dead...

Rookies have been a part of the Bassmaster Classic since the very beginning -- 1971, when all the anglers were rookies. In 2011, there will be 15 Classic rookies competing. It seems like a big number, but it's actually quite average.
This year's rookies include three anglers from the Elite Series (Morizo Shimizu, Jason Williamson and Greg Vinson), five from the Opens (Randall Tharp, Andy Montgomery, Keith Combs, Ryan Said and Tracy Adams), all six of the B.A.S.S. Federation Nation qualifiers (Brandon Palaniuk, George Crain, Dale Hightower, Brian LaClair, Sean...

The month of October has a seductive way of enticing bass anglers to trade in their flipping sticks for shotguns, winterize their bass rigs and start tracking through the open corn fields in search of game birds. Savvy Bass Anglers on the other hand spend their time scanning their fall fishing logs from previous years, reviewing areas with deep water close to shallow flats that were productive on previous fall outings, as the life cycle of our favorite finned quarry rotates into another fall feeding frenzy.
Bassmaster Elite Angler Mark Menendez (www.MarkMenendez.com) suggests several...

Fourteen pounds isn’t really that much in terms of big-time bass fishing tournaments. That is unless you’re talking about the margin of victory. Keith Combs of Del Rio, Texas won the PAA event on Tawakoni this past weekend by that margin, 14.23 pounds to be exact. A big part of that was made up in one huge bass, a 9.23-pound largemouth Combs caught the first morning of the tournament.
His three day total of 60.48 pounds set the record for tournament weight for a PAA event....
