By 1:30 p.m. Thursday, that’s how many bass Keith Combs of Huntington, Texas, believed he’d end up weighing in on the first day of the West Point Lake Battle, the fourth event of the Bassmaster Elite Series season. In six hours of casting, he had not had one bite.

ZAPATA, Texas — Third-year Elite pro Keith Combs of Huntington, Texas, locked out 11 other finalists Monday in the Rigid Industries Falcon Slam, including his biggest threat after three rounds, four-time Bassmaster Classic champ and Zen master of bass fishing, Rick Clunn.

How big of a role did Keith Combs' vast experience on Falcon Lake play in his Bassmaster Elite Series victory there? It almost can't be overstated.
"It was probably the only reason I was able to catch them the way I did," said the Huntington, Texas resident who spends much of the winter season guiding on the border impoundment.
